The moment I decided I wanted to thru-hike the CDT I knew I had to shoot it with a panoramic camera. In my mind I thought this trail will be so different from anything that I experienced along the Appalachian and Pacific Crest Trail. I had never been to this part of the United States before and I kept thinking to myself I wanted to capture it like the old Spaghetti Western films. After all Sergio Leone is one of my favorite film directors. Then reality set in, most panoramic cameras which I envisioned using would be out of reach for me financially. Not long after I received a call from one of the owners of the Darkroom Lab which is also the company that develops and scans all of my film. Phil told me the Hasselblad Xpan was his favorite camera and that if he could locate one that I could borrow it for the duration of my hike. Obviously I was doing backflips in my head and a few short weeks later, I had a package in the mail containing the camera of my dreams.
This gallery focuses on the environment and landscapes in which one will find themselves in while trekking the Continental Divide Trail. My portrait work will be posted soon, for updates on when that will be or to hear about other projects that I am working on join my email list at the bottom of the website. Thank you and enjoy. - Nicholas “Click” Reichard
